Basket Item Number: A3170 a-b from the MOA: University of British Columbia
Description
Small, oval-shaped basket with a flat, fitted lid (b). Along base of basket and along side of lid is a band of purple/pink/purple. Central band on basket is a line of zigzag in purple flanked by purple lines. In centre of lid is a pink oval bordered by purple. Base has a plaited origin and plain twining over wide warp strands. Sides are twisted twined work.
Narrative
The collector listed this basket as being from Bella Coola, however it was clearly made by a Nuu-chah-nulth basket maker. It is unknown if the collection place was listed incorrectly, or if the basket had been traded from the west coast to Bella Coola.
