Description

Print showing two kabuki actors, by the sea. The figure on the left side is the actor Sawamura Tosshō (沢村訥升), wearing clothing that has brown and yellow coin patterns on a green background. The figure on the right side is the actor Segawa Kikunojō (瀬川菊之丞), wearing clothing that has patterns of green cicadas and dragon flies, on a black background, and a pink-beige print on a light blue background. Sawamura is bracing his feet against the ground and Segawa is leaning back, as both of them are holding a long white cloth between them. Behind them is a blue seascape with green mountains; the sky is grey. The black characters in each upper left corner are their names,沢村訥升 (Sawamura Tosshō),on the left and 瀬川菊之丞 (Segawa Kikunojō) on the right. The artist name Ichiyūsai Kuniyoshi (国芳一勇齊) in black characters is at the bottom of each print, with a rectangular black seal with the publisher’s name, and red circular seals. The print is made of two vertically rectangular parts, creating a horizontally rectangular image overall.
