Description

The man is standing on the right rolling his right sleeve up with his left hand. His head is turned down toward the left side. He is wearing a robe with a brown, grey, and black striped pattern. In the upper right corner, there is a wall with wallpaper, a window, and straw. The background is white. The print is made of two vertically rectangular pieces adhered to a horizontally rectangular paper. Each has sets of Japanese characters: the artist's signature, a circular red seal, and on the right side two circular black censor seals.

Narrative

Prints have circular black censor seals, known as aratame-in (改印) or kiwame-in (極印). Signed Hanmoto no ōju Toyokuni ga (梓元ノ応需豊国画) with a red circular seal known as toshidama-in (年玉印).
