Fork Item Number: A8557 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Fork carved from one piece of wood with four prongs and a handle carved into the shape of a fish baring teeth. The details of the fish are emphasized with black paint. This fork is carved in a light hardwood, and elaborated with black stripes, stipples, dots, and dashes.

Narrative

This fork bears a strong resemblance to spoons by the same hand in the MOA collection as well as MOV, and RBCM. The simple painting with black pigment, stripes, dots, and use of red/burgundy in the mouth of the fish all conform to Elwitt’s style.
