Description

Jacket, collarless, in the bolero style made of green wool twill with set-in sleeves gathered to wide cuffs. There are black wool diamond-shaped patches on the elbows, attached only at the corners. There is a light red/purple wool tape border around all the decorative areas: at the neck, front, bottom, cuffs, pockets, and elbows. The decorative areas include dark red-purple cotton twill tape with yellow and white rickrack appliqué and multicoloured cotton machine embroidered floral, and geometric designs. The jacket is fastened at the front by six metal hooks and eyes.

History Of Use

Part of a ceremonial costume worn at festivals. The tradition of regionally distinctive dress is still a feature of some of the remote villages of highland Peru. The costumes are a mixture of Spanish influence with surviving indigenous aspects and materials.
