Cut piece of tapestry band. The primary motif is red, s-shaped, double-headed serpent surrounded by a serrated shape of off-white with a yellow border. Background is dark yellow. Motif is flanked by stripes in red and shades of yellow. Parts of both finished edges are present. The technique is slit tapestry with outlining. Some weft yarns are plied and others are single ply.
The width and the stripe arrangement suggest this is a fragment of a lower band of a poncho shirt. The materials, colours and design layout are standard for the central coast. Technical features (Rowe) are consistent. The lack of interlocking in the serpent design suggests it may be transitional between Chancay and Inca. Late Intermediate Period, Transitional to Late Horizon.
