Description

Grey-bodied stoneware bowl on single ring pedestal base with flat outturned foot. Body has straight sides expanding to mouth with outturned rim. Slightly crackled grey glaze enamelled overglaze in red, orange, black, green, brown, white and yellow. Design on outside includes (bottom and top) zigzag band of black lines enclosed by black bands, band of red inverted square u-forms outlined in black; band consisting of four rectangular panels containing four different plants, space between panels filled with red brocade pattern; brown band with black frets. Black and red band inside rim. Two character mark 'great mountain' in lozenge.

History Of Use

This bowl was probably produced in a south Chinese kiln during the early 20th century.
