Description
Shirt made of red cotton with vertical multicoloured patterned bands in yellow, green, orange, blue, black and white. A slit opening at the neck is finished with a collar brocaded with designs formed by multicoloured diamond shapes. The left breast pocket and sleeve cuffs are also brocaded with multicoloured diamond motif patterns.

Woven warp-faced plain weave with warp stripes, continuous supplementary single-faced weft pattern on collar, pocket and cuffs (Lambert). Handstitched at shoulder seam with yellow cotton thread. Warp: 2 singles (z-plied); weft: 2 singles. Supplementary weft-patterning against a warp-faced weave on the collar, pocket and sleeve ends. Supplementary weft: four 2-ply (z-twist) threads over approximately 2-14 warps. Probably woven on a treadle loom. Garment has been assembled with machine sewing. Collar edge embroidered in a blanket stitch.
