Description

Carved ape headdress of dark stained wood. The face has protruding eyes, a long nose and large bar-like teeth in a huge grimacing mouth; large ears. The face is contained within a heart shaped line forming the brows and cheeks and converging at the mouth. Horns are represented by two spider-like animals carved on top of the head. The back has a wire hanger placed inside a large scooped out area. Remnants of white paint on two of the teeth. Small cracks on face and brow area.

History Of Use

Headdress carved in the form of an ape, to be worn with a feather costume. This mask belongs to one of the Kwifoyn society’s most powerful and dangerous sub-sections, felingang, which only appears in the king’s presence.
