Small, flat change purse with a metal snap fastener. The purse is made of pieces of finely woven cotton fabric, backed with stiffening fabric and bound in red plastic. Two inner pockets are separated by a simple mill cotton sleeve. Machine stitched. The design shows a band of narrow stripes alternating with bands of diamond motif. Multicoloured stripes in green/blue and red, and bands of light and dark yellow and red/brown and white.

History Of Use

The purse's material combines characteristic Nepali hand-weaving designs. Nepalese hand-weaving is now used in the manufacture of small items for sale to tourists and visitors. The traditional hand-weaving is adapted to western items, such as this change purse. Bags of this sort are very popular souvenir items in north India and nepali mountain towns.
