Description
Long white shirt with strip pattern, embroidery and fringe. The shirt has a v-neck and long sleeves. The back of the neck is gathered with red stitching. The front and back have a thin red stripe pattern on white ground. The sleeves are embroidered with geometric and bird motifs in purple, blue, green, pink and orange. The fringe is only on the back bottom hem, created from warp ends. The inside is unlined.
History Of Use
The sleeves of the shirt come from the lower part of the sleeves of a woman's wedding blouse. Designs on portion of sleeves on shirt are the same as designs on a woman's wedding blouse. The village can identify man and wife by this design correlation.
Iconographic Meaning
Queztal bird motif used on sleeves is the national bird and a symbol of the deity Quetzalcoatl.
