Description
Fitted cream shirt with stripe pattern. The shirt has collar, v-neck and long cuffed sleeves. There are cotton cord ties at the neck and both cuffs. The stripe pattern repeats a thick purple line flanked by thin lines. The bottom front hem is hemmed; the back hem is a selvedge end. The seams are hand sewn. The inside is unlined.
History Of Use
In Guatemala's highlands an Indian man's everyday wear usually consists of trousers, shirt, belt, often a jacket or blanket-like covering, a bag, hat and sandals. In the main, the shirt is basically European in style with set-in sleeves, collar and cuffs. Although this shirt was probably woven on a back strap loom, many are made from mill woven fabrics (Dieterich).
