Description

Mask of a human face. Dark red/yellow-brown face has circular cut out hole eyes surrounded by a tapering and an area around the eyes that is recessed in suggestion of an ovoid shape with black brows above. The nostrils are cut out as is the thinly parted, slightly downturned mouth. The chin is pointed. Around the eyes and the cheeks, there is a black-painted delicate design consisting of a pair of u forms that have diagonal lines within. Remains of red paint in some areas. Leather thongs are attached with nails to the sides and the top of the mask at the rear.

Narrative

No provenance information on file, prior to Walter Koerner donating it. Apparently there is a note from Marius Barbeau that says: "Presumbly by Amos Collison of Kitkatla", however the note is not on file at MOA. The listed artist and location are based only on Barbeau's comment.
