Description
Small drawstring bag of hand-woven yellow cotton in plain weave. Stylized floral motif is embroidered with black thread closely following the warp and weft of the fabric. Unlined. Machine sewn seams. Hand sewn finishing. Drawstring is of two strand twisted cotton, dark and light purple, with orange tassels. '90' written on the inside with blue ink.
History Of Use
Coins and small personal items are carried in small bags in India, especially drawstring types. This is an example of the type most commonly used by women of all classes. Carried in a fold of the waistband of a sari. Bihari women specialize in kashida embroidery, using chain and running stitches to create stylized patterns and geometric forms.
