Description

Convex, triangular piece of animal hide with rounded edges covered with floral beadwork. Beadwork has white beaded background with floral design in blues, greens, yellow, clear, pink and reds; design depicts five flowers joined together by blue stems. Brown and pink floral printed fabric sewn onto the back.

History Of Use

Possibly one of the corner pieces from a Cree pad saddle? During the 19th century, beadwork replaced quillwork. Early beadwork was applied to skins with sinew. After the introduction of woven textiles, broadcloth and velvet became the basis for most bead embroidery, with commercial thread replacing sinew for sewing.
