Description

Print showing a mother and her children outdoors in a snow-scene. Two children are building snowman, the other is holding a bunny in a bowl, and the mother has a baby on her back. Main colours are brown, red, blue, yellow, green, grey, and white. The artist’s stylized seals appears, in red, at the lower left on the image. The red Japanese characters in the margin are the first edition seal, followed by the seals of the publisher, printer and carver. The paper mount is stamped "Made in Japan".

Narrative

Title: Yukidaruma (雪だるま). Publisher: Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院); printer: Ōno (大野); carver: Matsuda (松田). This print is from the artist's Korean series. It is alternatively known as “Winter, Korea.” Kyoto Hanga-in was established in 1935 in Kyoto, and is still active.
