Description

A massive wedge-shaped stone axe head. This axe head was re-accessioned as Z 2696, see catalogue entry under this later number.; Good

Context

The catalogue card states the axe head was dug-up at the forks of the Skeena River in 1888. The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields.
'Accessions Register reads: Dug up by an Indian belonging to the Gaitik-shean Tribe at the forth of the Skeena River, B. Columbia. and Given on the spot to J Turner Turner 1888. The adze is one of those used by the Gaitikshean Indians till the introduction of iron. S-J Harknett 4/10/2004'
