Description

Almost complete fur skin of a small mammal, probably a fisher, Martes pennanti, a fur bearing animal which ranges throughout the Northwest Coast and the interior of Canada. The skin is cylindrical with the head, legs and tail of the creature still intact. The creature had very long front legs.; Good

Context

It is hard to assign provenance to unused materials. It is possible this pelt was acquired through trade, as indeed pelts were a trade item. Possibly Hepburn collected it as an example of the animal itself, or as an example of the type of pelts traded (G.Crowther).; Collected by: Hepburn.J.E
