Description
Tall, heavy, colourfully painted and glazed candelabra-like Tree of Life sculpture with three small cups and a circular mound base. At the base and top of the central trunk are birds on stilt-like legs while in the middle, a female figure wearing a polka dot skirt and crown with a cross. Multi-looped branches to each side are decorated with three dimensional figures, birds, flowers and plants painted yellow, orange, green, blue, black and brown.
History Of Use
For generations, in Izucar de Matamoros, every married couple received a tree of life at the time of their wedding, ensuring that prosperity would bless the new union. But by the late seventies, the demand for trees diminished, and by the eighties, young couples no longer started their married lives with the traditional tree.
