Box made of clay with base (a) and lid (b) that both have ten side panels. Both the lid and the base are glazed with dark grey and blue-grey triangular and leaf patterns bordered by lines on a light blue-grey ground. There is a small peak at the centre of the lid. The glaze is iron-speckled; the foot rim and base are unglazed, and there is a pontil mark on base; the box is glazed inside, and the lid is not. Junctions of panels marked by double lines in underglaze iron black.
In the 14th century the kilns at Sawankhalok experienced a great expansion in pottery production, partially due to the influence of Chinese potters coming into the region. Boxes were just one type of their ceramic wares frequently exported throughout Southeast Asia.
