Description
Dagger (part a) and sheath (part b). The dagger has a steel blade and a horn handle. The sheath has an embroidered geometric design and a braided edge with a strap and buckle attached.
History Of Use
The bilaawe (dagger or short sword) are usually fitted with a straight double-edged blade and are carried in sheaths of sheep leather. The hilts are made of dark horn and bright metal, often in interleaved strata. These daggers or short swords have two distinct types of pommel: a single metal tang projecting from the centre of the hilt and one with three metal spikes projecting from the pommel in the form of a crown
