Three-dimensional figure of St. John the Baptist standing in a white, arched niche, wearing an animal hide (camel hair?) tunic. Figure has a fan shell in his left hand, and part of a broken staff in his right hand. There are yellow outlines on the arch top, above the blue section over the arch, and around the green area behind his head. Figure has a yellow halo. Partial inscription on a banner wrapped around upper portion of staff: "Ecce Agnus Dei" ("Behold the Lamb of God"). Unglazed back.
This frieze would probably have been mounted in a decorative niche in a private chapel or a church.
Religious; decorative; functional.
