Description
Square tiered earthenware stove with flat flared base on 6 green baluster legs. 3 rows of tiles in the fire box, each row has 3 portraits within a circular medallion and 1 rectangular figure. Tower is octagonal and has three tiers: two tiers of rectangular tiles, each with 12 standing figures under arches. 12 smaller rectangular tiles above with outfacing rim.
Narrative
This stove was reconstructed from an auction purchase of 91 tiles and fragments. For a full description of the restoration process, see the last chapter ("The Tiled Stove") in "A Discerning Eye: The Walter C. Koerner collection of European ceramics" (Mayer; 2014).
