Description

Rehoused 05/26/04. These items were taged with museum acc# and object# 638/1 through 5, (4&5 attached), and matched Basketry Card description. (note:They were located on blue acid-free cardboard with catalog # 45sk59b/564 written on it. Basketry Card #564, also list 5 false braided rim pieces. I could not locate # 564 at this time.) I left tags on. B. Avery. Information from field Basketry Card (see Archaeology Archives): Description: Basket remnamts, stakes, bone Handles: none Rim: 5 pieces of false braided type of rim. Most of the pieces are large possibly part of same basket - one piece definately smaller. Two pieces 2.06,two pieces 1.50 and one piece 1.35 in width. The larger pieces are loosly connected with remains of main parts of basket. Body: The 4 large rim pieces are attached to pieces of open twined basket - very coarse about 2 stitches per inch - Probably made fromsplit cedar. Smaller rim is also attached to a piece of open twined basket. Medium gauge. Probably made of reeds or willow. Bottom: none Provenience: Cut: n/a Horiz. Loc.: n/a Depth: n/a Warp Max: 1.54-large pieces .81-small pieces Warp Min: 1.05 .61 Warp Mean: 1.35 .70 Weft Max: .88 .31 Weft Min: .52 .20 Weft Mean: .70 .26 Remarks: Small basket starts checker weave after twined. Associated are pieces of willow that were once possibly woven in open twine method - now on board. 3 pieces of wood - (1) 29.1cm/2.4cm/1.88cm (2) 13.6cm/2.27cm/1.80cm (3) 10.5cm/ 1.80cm/.77cm Also one piece of bone possibly a rib. 44cm/1.85cm/.96cm. Various other fragments of reed or willow used for basket material and pieces cedar bark.
