Description

Huaguang Dadi altar figure. It is a seated figure on a red chair that has dragon heads at the ends of its arms. Figure is holding gold pyramid in right hand. Has third eye in centre of forehead and is wearing dragon design costume with a black, orange, red, white and gold hat. Floral design on front of base in gold.

Huaguang Dadi (Great Emperor of Majestic Light) is the principal occupational deity for all opera performers and a popular tutelary deity of Guangdong associated with prosperity. The deity has three eyes and wears a rainbow-coloured robe with a civil-cultural sleeve on one arm and a martial sleeve on the other to indicate the deity’s power over both realms.
