Description
One layer of futon cover made in the katazome technique. The cover is dark blue with light white-grey chrysanthemum design. Undyed panel at one end of futon cover, light white-grey colour. Two small patches with kasuri or ikat design on inside surface.
Specific Techniques
One layer of futon cover constructed of fabric woven from cotton threads in balanced plain weave. Fabric dyed by stencil-dyed (katazome) method, a resist technique whereby open areas of a stencil (cut from stencil paper, or katagami) are covered with a rice paste resist that blocks subsequently applied dye. Fabric dyed with indigo dye. Four widths of fabric have been hand-stitched together to form futon cover. Cotton interfacing fabric at one edge woven in balanced plain weave. Two small patches hand-stitched to inside of futon cover of warp and weft resist-dyed cotton fabric (dyed in Indigo).
