BASKETRY OF NORTHWESTERN SALISHAN TRIBES. TEXTURE IN THE BIRD-CAGE STITCH COMMON TO THIS AREA. THERE IS A VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ELEMENT OF COARSE TWINE, AND THESE ARE HELD TOGETHER BY A WHIPPING OF GRASS, IN NATURAL COLOR AND DYED. GEOMETRIC DESIGNS AND ANIMAL FIGURES SERVE AS ORNAMENTS."
