FROM CARD: "WEAVE - CHECKER-WORK. MATERIALS - PICEA SITCHENSIS [SITKA SPRUCE]. A WHALING BAG, USED TO CARRY HARPOONS, ETC. THIS BAG WAS PURCHASED FROM A MAKAH WHALER AT NEAH BAY. THEY ARE VERY SCARCE AS THERE ARE FEW WHALERS AT THE PRESENT TIME AND THEY ARE LOATH TO SELL THEIR BAGS AS NONE ARE BEING MADE." [Back of card has photo of basket glued on.]
