Description

Standing female figure with short legs, long torso, and ahead that tapers to a point at the top back. The figure has a protruding belly button, square chin, and smaller nose. Its neck is the same width as its chin and has four small bumps and a raised ring around its middle. The breasts of the figure are decorated with lines formed from raised diamond shapes. The legs are bulbous, coming in at the knee from both the calf and the thigh. The front of both feet appear to be missing.

History Of Use

Pairs of male and female figures representing village founders were often housed in small shrines. They received offerings to ensure fertility and well-being, and may have been paraded during funerals of chiefs and important men.
