Description

Red cotton textile, embroidered with red, dark brown and yellow floral designs, mirrors and border motifs. There are three embroidered panels on the textile: a large band of embroidery is shaped like an elongated, inverted triangle, while the two much smaller panels are rectangular in shape, are located one of either side of the large panel, and are identical to each other. The embroidery designs on all three bands are composed of regularly-spaced, round, red floral motifs, each surrounded by a circle of mirrorwork. Each panel is bordered by narrow brown and yellow strips. The embroidery is so dense that it obscures the background textile.

History Of Use

A ‘shirt-front,’ meant to be used in the construction of a shirt, dress or tunic. The large embroidered panel forms the front neckline and covers the chest, while the smaller embroideries form the cuffs.
