Description
Rattle in the shape of copper with a rounded circular protrusion in the centre. Centre part has painted design on both sides. One side has a black profile bird head with red accents facing to the left side and having the upper portion bordered by green. The other side has a face with circular black eyes surrounded by a green area with black brows and three equally spaced inverted red u forms above, a black nose, and a red mouth outlined by black and having a green circular halo-like feature. The lower portion is divided into two vertically bisymmetrical halves by black.
History Of Use
Used in ceremonial dances.
Narrative
This rattle was first used circa 1918, when C. George was an attendant: hlikala, for his father (C. George, 1966).
Came to the museum through A. Mountain, but was not owned by her.
