Description
Garment (huipil), predominantly red, constructed of panels of off-white cotton with rows of drawn work brocaded with multicoloured bird figures, bands of multicoloured stripes, panels of brocade work featuring multicoloured zigzag and diamond patterns, and panels of geometric brocade work. The garment is divided vertically by vertical bands formed by horizontal multicoloured bands. The sleeve openings are edged with violet ribbon and coarse machine-made white lace with a green edge. The neck is emphasized by several appliqued green triangles.
Specific Techniques
Huipil with brocade as the supplementary weft. Called gauze weaving; bottom edges finished; joints embroidered. The neck is a woven white piece that’s cut afterward.
