Painting shows an angel in human form, wings slightly spread behind him. The angel’s face is rosy, with a slight smile, and the hair is long and curled. The dress is colonial in style, with an elaborate red, green and gold tunic, edged on the visible arm and bottom with lace. A long red and gold cape falls to the angel’s right. Tall boots reach nearly to the knees and are topped with bows. A helmet sits on the head and is adorned with several colourful feathers. The angel holds a large round shield with a spike emerging from the centre. The background is dark brown and green and the edges of the painting are lined with foliage and painted flowers in red and gold.
