Description

Large painting in dark colours of a woman in an ornate dress surrounded by religious imagery. Pomata is pilgrimage site in Peru. Our Lady of Pomata was honoured as a source of miracles in Peru. Red curtains in the upper right and left corners descend down the sides of the painting. A pink cherub in each corner holds the edge of the curtain up with one of their arms. With their other hands, the cherubs gesture towards the woman in the middle of the painting. She is bordered by a half-circle of red, pink, yellow and yellow-white circles in various sizes. Most of the background is dark purple. The woman is much larger than the other figures in the image. She wears a yellow and grey crown with red dots on it, elaborate yellow-white and red earrings and an ornate cross necklace. Her skin is pink. Her dress is triangular and takes up the majority of the space in the image. The dress has a yellow-white collar, ruffles at the ends of the sleeves, large yellow white tiers, yellow-white and red diamond-shaped motifs and green and red flowers on it. The base fabrics of the dress are green and dark purple. In her left hand, Our Lady holds a rosary. Her right hand supports a child that rests upon her right shoulder. The child wears a yellow, black and red crown; red dress with yellow-white ruffles at the neck and wrists; and holds a blue cup. In the lower left corner of the image, there is a small depiction of Jesus Christ on the cross; the cross is green. Jesus has pink skin with red dots painted all over it. In the lower right corner, there is a woman with her hands clasped in prayer. Her head is disproportionately large for her body. She wears a blue, yellow and orange dress; a yellow-white head scarf and a garland of red flowers around her head. In front of the large skirt of Our Lady, there are three candles with orange flames. There are red and yellow-white flowers painted throughout the image. The frame is brown and gold.
