Description

Clay "joni chomo" portrait pot. The mouth is small with straight walls, beneath which is a three-dimensional face with protruding nose, cheeks, chin and ears. The eyes are painted ovals with small pupils, topped by arching brows that meet above the nose. The mouth is an incised line, frowning, emphasized with paint. The ears and back of the head are painted brown. The face and body to the pot’s shoulder are covered in an intricate geometric pattern in brown and rust on a light yellow background. Below, the pot is decorated with thick lines in shades of orange, brown and light yellow. The bottom third of the pot is undecorated, orange in colour with large areas of black carbonization. The foot is small and round.
