Description

Wooden, carved, transformation mask (in parts a-b - two sides no longer attached) with wolf on the outside and a thunderbird(?) on the inside. The face of the wolf has black edging with red nostrils and teeth. The eyes are black with white edging on a green ovoid-like shape background. One ear is attached to the top of the head and is decorated with an ovoid and split U shapes (part a). The inside of the mask is hollow with black painted thunderbird(?) with red detailing on a white background. The mask is painted black, red, green and white with stylized designs.

History Of Use

Transformation mask, incomplete, outer face wolf. These masks are threaded so that by pulling a string the wearer opens up outside face and reveals inner one.
