Description

A) A plaster cast model of a wooden comb from the Victoria Museum, B.C. The comb has a face carved onto it with a hooked nose, possibly an eagle. The cast has been stained brown. B) A plaster cast of a bear head side view with a small figure on its head.The head is on what appears to be a broken stick. Light brown colour.; Good

Context

The comb and stick are possibly Tlingit (G.Crowther). The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields.; Combs were often used by shamans, the stick may be the cast of a trap stick made from whalebone. These sticks were used as trigger mechanisms in deadfall traps, the crest carved on the stick serving to lure the prey (G.Crowther).
