Description

Gold rectangular brooch with dogfish face design. Somewhat square, front-on face of animal stares out from centre of brooch, tongue lolling between sharp pointed teeth under a prominent nose with curling nostrils. Eyes are oval, and ears are squared at top. Ovoid shapes are placed around the border at the four corners of the brooch. Stick pin on upper back. HAIDA ART / Reid inscription on back.

Purchased by the donor from The Quest, in Victoria, in 1963. Item number 22 in the catalogue "Bill Reid: a Retrospective Exhibition" (1974; Vancouver Art Gallery).
