Bottom of bowl is orange and the rest is a beige shade. Carved lines and triangular-shaped motifs in horizontal bands.

History Of Use

This type of bowl is used to carry, or winnow rice or other grains; it generally does not carry water as the container would become damaged. Referred to as a calabash in West Africa, it can be used to cover food to conserve heat and protect it from bugs. Calabashes can store and transport water, porridge, milk, beer and wine, honey, ghee, animal fat, salt, tobacco, perfume, or medicinal herbs. Calabashes can also be turned into animal feeders, well buckets, vases, funnels, floats for fishing nets, wash basins, irrigation pots, cages for chicken, masks, musical instruments, and storage container for clothes.
