Panel fragment from a mantle or shawl. Irregularly shaped with vertical stripe design across entire surface. Alternating columns of brown and light blue. Brown columns darken, started as brown-grey and ending in dark brown, towards right side of fragment. Blue columns have white interior borders and white diamond outlines throughout. Diamond designs are stitched onto fragment.
Main body of fragment done in warp-faced plain weave. Patterns woven with deflected warps. Blue colour done with indigo dye.
Collected in Peru before the 1970s by Ina VanStan, a Professor of Textiles and Clothing at the Florida State College for Women (Florida State University) from the 1940s to c. 1966. VanStan later gifted her collection to the donor. A large amount of the donation was used for teaching at the University of Alberta while others were mainly small study fragments.
