Description
Ceremonial hanging or funeral shroud composed of two matching pieces of ikat fabric stitched together down the length to form a large square. Uniform geometric patterns in grey-blue, light brown and dark purple-red on a red-orange background. Both sides are bordered by vertical stripes of olive green, grey-blue, red-orange and light yellow. There is a strip of fabric sewn across the back of the top of the textile with pin holes in it. The bottom edge has fringe.

Tag on textile reads: "Vegetable dyes Toraja Ikat Cloth".
Specific Techniques
Red dyes from Chendana tree (Indian sandalwood) with Tuak palm wine mordant. Blue dyes are indigo.
