Rigid, cylindrical basket with wide lip, tapering to a smaller base. Base is made of wood, sides made of strips of rattan(?). Strips are tied together, at intervals, with braided plant fibre. Strips are solid at base of basket, before splitting in two towards the top edge. Structure of basket formed with interior coils of rattan(?). Two coils along the top edge. Raised foot nailed to base, made of bark. Two additional strips attached to back of basket, with a long braided strap secured to both of them.
Carrying basket; worn like a backpack, with straps over the shoulders.
Acquired by the donor in 1976-1978, when he lived and worked in Sabah, on the island of Borneo, as a volunteer with CUSO International.
