Description

Painting on a piece of arches paper, in vertical orientation; depicts a brolga. Painting background is dark brown, that lightens to yellow-brown in centre; the bird spans the entire height and width of the painting. Brolga has its long legs stretched in front of it, resting on its tail, with its neck bent over a plant. Bird has a black oval-shaped head, with yellow eyes, and a long beak; neck is black with wide white stripes throughout, outlined in yellow. Lower section of legs are black with a vertical yellow stripe running through the middle. Upper section of leg is decorated like body. Bird has an oval-shaped body with a protruding semi-circular chest and semi-circular tail. Chest is black; tail is black and decorated with white diagonal lines. Body is decorated with rectangles filled with cross-hatching; rectangles are black, cross-hatching done in maroon, yellow and white. Lines dividing rectangles are white. Long black stripes run down back of bird; outer stripe has a yellow line through the centre, inner stripe has wide white bands. The plant the brolga is feeding from consists of a black circle with wavy black and white lines extending from the top, and dotted lines from the bottom; dots are yellow, white and black. Back of painting has a stamp on it; pencil inscriptions underneath.
