Description

Decorated quiver (part a) with blow darts (parts b-d) inside. The quiver consists of a cylindrical body, open on one end. It is filled with curled plant material, with three darts (one with plant fibre wrapped around it) inserted into the space. A small gourd is attached to the side of the quiver by two metal pieces that are held in place by threads wrapped around both the metal and the cylinder. The threads create two blue bands, each with a red stripe down the centre. The tube and gourd are both decorated with black geometric patterns. A small plaited cord of blue and light yellow is attached near the open end, knotted.

Narrative

The donor's parents lived in Caracas, Venezuela, for a few years in the 1970s, where they purchased these pieces (3579/1-11). The Yekuana people live mainly in Amazonas and Bolivar states.
