Bottle3177/2

Peruvian pot. Bottle takes the shape of a woman sitting cross-legged on a squared pedestal base. She wears a headdress that wraps her head at back from forehead to chin, with squares protuberances on the top corners and flaps at the bottom. A band across her brow holds two round flower motifs. A large collar surrounds her neck, and her hand rest on her knees. The bottle’s tubular handle emerges from the back of the figure’s head, arcing down to connect with the pedestal she sits on. A spout emerges from its top. Handle is painted a rust-red, as is the woman’s face, collar, and outlines along the edges of the base. The rest of the object is a mottled orange-brown.

Bottle3177/1

Light brown-yellow clay bottle, mottled with orange. Pot takes the shape of a man with one leg kneeling, the other bent and supporting his elbow. His hands grip a tool or instrument held on an angle against his torso. Face has a protruding nose, smiling mouth, and rounded chin. Figure wears a cloak with hood, his head topped by a feline-like figure whose head and shoulders extend over the man’s forehead. At back, the bottle’s tubular handle arcs between the head and shoulder, with a spout emerging from the top. Handle is brown-red in colour.

Quipu3177/12

Quipu, or string abacus. Five thin strands of twisted wool fibre are tied to a light yellow cord. The five strands each carry a series of knots, used as a counting or record keeping system. One of the strands is a grey-green colour, another is brown and tan, and the remaining three are light brown.

Textile fragment in the shape of a simple face, slightly wider and curved at top, narrowing toward chin. Eyes and mouth are large, rounded spots of orange. The fragment is comprised of two layers of material, creating an open space between.

Woven textile constructed of fine strands of wool in an open weave resembling a grid. Large geometric shapes are incorporated into the piece by filling connected squares of the grid with extra strands of wool in criss-cross patterns. Small areas of the weave are stained pale orange.

Vest made of woolen plain-weave cloth and adorned with white buttons, embroidery bands, pockets and colourful fabric appliqués. Rectangular pockets with embroidery bands at borders of geometric motifs forming large roses. Curved woven strips in the interior forming an inverted triangle with one button. Two bands in the centre front of red fabric and curved strips on pink and green in interior. Two protruding ties are hanging from front with embroidery bands of large rose designs. Pink curved vertical strips in the middle of ties.

Hat3083/14

Round embroidered hat with straw in the interior. The top has a green background and an embroidered off-white band forming different sewn motifs: (1) two bands in "Y" shape with protruding yellow triangle decorations at borders and purple triangles at base, (2) two triangular designs with red triangle at base, band of orange-red, green, pink, purple and yellow squares above; protruding yellow triangles at borders. A hole at the centre of the hat has fabric in the interior with an embroidered cross that rises when the hat is worn. Protruding triangles at rim, red fabric at the bottom and non-dyed fabric in the head area.

Hat3083/13

Round wool hat with shaped crown in the middle and straw in the interior. Top of hat has different embroidered motifs surrounded by sewn metal sequins and small plastic beads: four tall trees, two circular designs with leaf decorations, two triangular designs with three geometric motifs. The crown has four geometric designs in each quarter and a high pompom in the middle with five coins of five cents each sewn with metal threads. Ring band at rim with geometric sewn designs and protuded serrated decoration; red fabric background and light red cushion in the interior.
