Hat3377/1

Brimless, short and rounded cap fully embroidered in rows of repeating designs that wrap around the band. The geometric and floral designs are stitched in pale grey-green, eggplant, deep pink and dark teal silk thread, outlined by orange-gold silk thread in chain stitch. The dome has a small eight-point star design at centre, with a ring of fern-like leaves encircling it. Edge hemmed with light green, white and purple band. Lined with solid beige fabric.

Circular hat with metallic embroidery. Silver, bronze, and gold embroidery alternates in checked pattern on exterior. Black embroidery in large crisscross pattern between embroidered metallic blocks. Sides are linear and crown flat. Space at front of brim is cut vertically and diagonally towards the crown. Interior is brown-white with quilted pattern.

Short round hat with a flat top. Space at front of brim is cut vertically and then diagonally towards the crown in a scalloped pattern. Crown and sides are embroidered with fine silver and gold metallic thread in a circular design, with black thread interlaced throughout.

Saddlebag1358/1

A saddlebag constructed from a long continuous length of off-white striped wool canvas, which is folded and seamed onto itself at each end to form a pair of bags of equal size (panniers). The fronts of both bags, as well as the “bridge” that separates the two bags, are decorated with large rectangular panels of very finely knotted pile weaving that is worked on the canvas. The piece is tightly woven and quite stiff. The design motifs on the pile woven sections is consisting of octagonal and other geometric forms with shades of red, and brown predominating. The outside edges of the saddle bag are bound with braided brown goat or camel hair and the opening of each bag is finished with dense loops of braided goat or camel hair. There are colourful tassels at the corners and on the back of one bag, a length of brown cotton twill tape is attached.

Woman’s dress made of purple shot silk, trimmed with gold jacquard ribbon, gold braid and panels of red cotton textile, closed at the neck with two white glass buttons. The neckline is finished with a narrow collar band. The wide cuffs are trimmed with gold braid and small, geometric embroidery. The back of the bodice and the upper part of the skirt are made of orange cotton textile. The waistband is constructed of gold jacquard ribbon and red cotton textile. The full skirt is pleated onto the waistband, and the hemline is trimmed with couched gold braid designs and gold jacquard ribbon. Completely backed with pink cotton textile; the lining and outer textiles are stitched together at intervals with a running stitch.

Woman’s dress made of purple shot silk, trimmed with metallic thread embroidery. The bodice front is a panel of heavily embroidered geometric designs worked in couched metallic thread and patches of brightly coloured cotton textile. The dress is collarless, with a centre front slit opening at the neck. High waist. The bodice back is plain. Full sleeves with embroidered cuffs; the two cuffs are similar in design but do not match each other exactly. The bodice is lined with a patchwork of cotton and silk textiles. The skirt is softly pleated onto the waisband. The hem is finished with a wide band of couched metallic thread embroidery and patches of brightly coloured cotton textiles. The back of the skirt is slightly longer than the front.

Burgundy dress with elaborate embroidery. The dress has a v-neck, long sleeves and full skirt. There are solid panels of embroidery around the neck, ends of the sleeves and the centre front. The geometric pattern is white, yellow, red, burgundy, green and black. Atop the centre panel is a triangle with the tip sewn to the dress, creating a small pocket. A red and green striped fabric has been added under each arm and down the centre back. The inside is unlined. The dress is hand sewn.

Quilted and embroidered square textile. Central design is a square, outlined with smaller squares that have embroidery-framed circular mirrors. The inner square has an overall light blue-green, burgundy and yellow-green on light brown colour scheme with more small circular mirrors embroidered within light blue-green flowers. This central square is framed by a wide border of various sized sections of red fabric embroidered with floral designs in black, green and yellow on one side, and pink, deep purple, green and yellow on the other side. Each section is edged with black threads. Finished with black edging, and a small black loop in one corner. Reverse is backed with maroon fabric over a layer of red fabric.
