These child's moccasins have the old style seam work typical of Cree. The beads go in two different directions, unusual. They have little trail dusters and are made all in one piece with one seam along the side.
This horsehair whip is possibly Blackfoot from the Montana area made by braiding dyed horsehair over a rawhide base and handle.
Object is a pair of moccasins, the fronts of which have blue, red-brown, and white beads. Cuffs are red wool; rawhide ties are natural. Very fine pair: spot stitch, side seam. Probably Plains Cree from Rocky Boy Reservation, which is nearby Glacier National Park, Montana, where these were collected.
Anonymous gift in memory of Dr. Harlow Brooks
Bequest of W.S. Morton Mead

The beaded light brown fabric panel, with black fabric edging, and a longer skin panel are sewn together on three sides, leaving the top open, and the top of the back skin piece is folded forward and stitched along the edge to created a belt loop. The design within the white bead background is four black-bordered green triangular shapes around a blue centre dot inside a large black and blue circle.
