Item Search

The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Jar2990/39

Terracotta jar with flared conical body and a flat base, a stepped shoulder and a human face on the spout. The face consists of two eyes on either side of a central nose with a double nose ring, and an ear with a ring as well (one of the ears has broken off). The features are applied to the vertical rim of the spout, just below the lip. Below this, the neck of the vessel narrows to the stepped shoulder. There are traces of faded black linear and curvilinear negative decoration all around the stepped shoulder and on the rim on the side opposite the face. There are flecks of white (unintentional?) on the shoulder on the side opposite the face, as well as a long crack extending down the body. Well preserved.
