Cantonese Opera Flute2668/4

Long vertical end-blown flute that has five evenly spaced raised ridges indicative of bamboo grass. There are several circular holes down the length of the flute as well as three sections of metal bands wrapped around the outside of the flute. One end is hollow and the other end is closed. There are characters in gold on the side of the flute.

Stringed Musical Instrument2668/2

Cantonese opera instrument. Two string fiddle, or violin (erhu, erxian), with bow attached, made from bamboo cane; two gourd-like pegs and two strings stretched over a bridge attached to a section of bamboo covered with reptile skin. Bow is strung with hair.

A small stone carved into a female head fragment. Hair is accentuated with carved lines and a centre part, with the rest curled up into a bun at the top. Eyes are closed. Eyebrow lines extend into the nose. Compressed mouth and chin.

A ceramic box with a very flattened ball form. Vessel (part a) and lid (part b) of equal proportions. Sides of both are vertically ribbed. Unglazed base. Granular white body. Top of lid is ornamented with a floral pattern in slip. Faintly yellow tinged transparent over all glaze falls far short of the base on the exterior. Interior is cursorily glazed.
