Oval, coiled, slat foundation carrying basket. Rim is single coiled and beaded with red cherry bark. Two coiled handles of cedar root foundation are attached to loops in the rim. Body of the basket is decorated with alternating red and black cherry bark with white grass (cat-tail) in eight vertical imbricated bands. Very finely woven.
Oval basket with hide straps. Coiled, slat foundation carrying basket. Rim is braided and has two long hide handles. Red cherry bark beading in horizontal bands around the basket. Imbrication drops in black cherry bark decorate the foot of the basket.
Small totem pole with three figures. Topmost is a bear figure with a black body, green arms and legs, a red snout and eyes and red dots covering the body. The middle figure is wolf-like with a red body, black arms and legs and green dots covering the body. The bottom figure is a bird with a green head and body covered with black dots and red and black striped wings. The word "Esquimalt" is roughly carved across the lowest portion of the pole. The pole sits on a black and brown base.
Arrow consisting of long cylindrical wooden shaft with notches and wrapped sinew at each end. At the base end of the shaft are three strips of dark grey feather, each approximately 13.5 cm long, secured to the shaft with sinew. The sinew at one end is coming unraveled due to the lack of metal point.
Arrow with long cylindrical wooden shaft with one end notched and broken. The other end has a metal point that is secured with wrapped sinew. The metal point is round at shaft end, but the pointed end has been flattened and cut. The opposite end of the shaft is stained with red pigment, possibly ochre, and has 2 strips of feather secured with sinew.
Arrow consisting of a long cylindrical wooden shaft with one notched end and a metal point at the other, secured with wrapped sinew. The triangular point has a double notched base and a narrow stem. At the midpoint of the metal stem has an oval hole. String is tied around stem where stem enters the shaft. At opposite end of shaft are two strips of feather secured by wrapped sinew. Red pigment, possibly ochre, is present on the basal end. The basal end of the shaft is notched.
Bowl with a concave central depression on the top, and a relatively flat surface across the back with half of a second depression. A zoomorphic face is carved across the front of the bowl with a wide protruding tongue and bulging eyes. There is also a curved indent and a flexed limb on each side behind the face.
Coiled cedar root basketry cradle (part a) with slat foundation and sides. Cradle is rounded at the higher, wider proximal end and is tapered and narrow at the distal end. Fully beaded overcast rim. Remainder of the cradle is plain on the inside and decorated with beading and imbrication on the outside. Rim pattern has mainly canary grass with several repeats of alternating cherry bark and grass. There are seven side coiled rows. First two rows repeat a pattern of closely spaced grass chevrons alternating with wider spaced red or dark brown cherry bark chevrons. Rows three and four repeat above pattern in alternating areas. Rows five and six feature three vertical red cherry bark lines alternating with a darker diamond or x-shaped pattern. Row seven is undecorated. No foot. Plain coiled bottom. Tumpline or carrying strap (part b) with wool wefts and multiple element warps is weft-faced plain weave in a light white-brown and red zigzag pattern. On each end of the strap, there is a machine-stitched, hide backed strip of plaid material which has a shell button on the strap end and a button hole at the other. Each end is buttoned over a strip of hide which is tied on each side of the cradle just below the rim with small strips of hide. There is a small piece of cordage tied to one side.
Large rectangular basket with a lid (part b). Basket is made of slat construction with a 2 cm indented foot. Decorated with an imbricated downward pointing arrowhead design in black and red cherry bark and a light-coloured grass, three on each long side and one on each short end. Top slat coil has red cherry bark beading and a 2 cm lip. Sides of the lid (part b) have black cherry bark beading and the top has black cherry bark arrowhead imbrication.
Slightly sloping, rectangular, coiled basket with a foot, loop work, and split stitches over the slat foundation. Geometric imbricated design that consists of a vertical row of natural brown diamond shapes outlined by black, dark red-brown, and light yellow-brown zig zags with a black border. Black beading around the foot and dark red-brown along the rim. Handle is 42.3 cm. long and fastened to the basket with cotton.
